Developer Notes

-The developer, LightningStrike83, gives full consent for all material created to be used by Smosh cast and crew
-If used, the material may be changed however Smosh cast and crew see fit
-The questions and answers presented were created with medium - hard difficulty, with cast members in mind that are already familiar with the franchise such as Tommy, Damien, Shayne, Ian, Anthony, and Spencer
-The aforementioned cast are not requests, just noting who the questions were balanced around
-Some questions were made with comments on previous Smosh videos requesting more recent Pokemon generation information / focus in mind
-This page, as well as the pdf download, were made with the thought of making it easier for crew and cast to transfer information onto needed materials for filming (such as cards)
-A majority of questions were made to provide material for discussion and banter
-A lot of the questions were made to try and match the vibe of Beopardy and not just "Name that Pokemon"
-The project was made with desktop in mind but it is functional on tablet and mobile devices, but with a few text styling limitations
-The 3D remake of Mewtwo Strikes Back was considered a separate movie due to having a separate code on Bulbapedia. Feel free to exclude it and change the answer to 5
-Absolutely no AI was used in the making of any of this at all
-Lastly, the developer is in no way connected to Smosh. This is purely a fan creation in hopes that it gains the attention of cast and crew and used for an episode of Beopardy. Nothing more, nothing less.

Question: Pokemon Sun and Moon were the first Pokemon games to debut what kind of Pokemon form, which include Vulpix, Exeggutor, and Raichu?

Answer: Regional Forms / Variants

Explanation: Sun and Moon were the first games to debut regional forms of Pokemon, where these Pokemon have adapted and changed due to a radically different environment. In later games, some of these forms can evolve into completely new Pokemon such as Paldean Wooper evolving into Clodsire instead of Quagsire.

Question: In Pokemon Legends Arceus, the clash between the player and a frenzied legendary Pokemon shows the origin of which iconic location in Sinnoh?

Answer: The Spear Pillar

Explanation: Originally known as The Temple of Sinnoh, the power that emits from the legendary Pokemon (either Dialga or Palkia; depending on which clan leader you didn't pick to join you earlier) leads to the temple's destruction and the ruins eventually become known as The Spear Pillar

Question: From Generations 3-5, which Pokemon could change gender when it evolved?

Answer: Azurill / Marill

Explanation: Azurill have a 75% chance to be female and a 25% chance to be male, while Marills have a 50:50 ratio. Due to the coding, 1 out of 3 female Azurill would evolve into a male Marill, depending on the hidden personality value.

Question: 'Divecats' is the name of a strategy that infuriated competitive players in Generation 5, and focused on which two Pokemon?

Answer: Purrloin and Liepard

Explanation: In this strategy, due to how the move 'Assist' was coded at the time, if you filled your team with moves that Assist can't call (like Helping Hand or Detect) and moves that have semi-invulnerable turns (like Dive and Dig), then on the first turn, Assist would always go first thanks to their ability Prankster, and if they held a Lagging Tail or Full Incense, then on the next turn, they would always go last. This made it so that Purrloin and Liepard would vanish from the field before the opponent could move and then reappear the next turn after the opponent has wasted their turn. 'Assist' was then changed in Generation 6 (X & Y) to longer call semi-invulnerable turn moves.

Question: The design inspiration behind which Pokemon was that the designer caught a humungous and disgusting creature in a nearby river?

Answer: Eelektrik

Explanation: The exact quote from Nintendo Dream volume 205: "This one was designed by Mr Ohmura — he had an idea that making an eel into a monster would look really powerful, and that idea became a Pokemon. Ohmura said that he once caught a humongous eel in a nearby river and that it was disgusting, but that experience is what inspired his idea for this evolutionary line. The eel he caught actually inspired Eelektrik, who best represents that feeling of strong but disgusting. Then Tynamo was conceived of because we wanted the evolutionary line to reflect how an actual eel physically matures in the real world." -Ken Sugimori, 2011

Question: When designing Pokemon, what are the two primary factors that designer Ken Sugimori say is the criteria they look for when deciding what Pokemon make the cut for games?

Answer: They need to be ferocious to be potent in combat but endearing enough that you want it as a friend.

Explanation: The exact quote from Nintendo Power issue 265: "In terms of how we decide which ones make the cut…hmmm. Well, in the games, Pokemon serve two roles. They fight for you, but they’re also your companions. So a Pokemon needs to seem ferocious enough to be potent in combat, while also looking endearing enough that you’d want it as a friend. It can’t be too ferocious. It’s difficult to strike that balance, so that’s probably the biggest criteria we’re looking for." -Ken Sugimori, 2011
