Miraculous Ladybug Title Sequence

Description:

For an assignment for Fanshawe College, we had to create a new title sequence for a show or movie, so I chose Miraculous Ladybug!

Case Study

For our last assignment in the Video Production course at Fanshawe College, we were tasked with creating a new title sequence for any show or movie. It had to be unique, tell a story within the sequence, and have us go out and learn things that weren't part of the curriculum.

At first, I had a whirlwind of ideas in my mind, including Ben 10, Power Rangers, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but nothing really struck a chord with me. I had ideas but they seemed too ambitious. Thanks to some in class examples, and a random stroke of luck of having a youtube recommendation for a song, I finally decided on doing on Miraculous Ladybug, and using the movie's theme song as the theme for the show.

For the story portion, the idea came to me almost instantly. The idea was to have a ladybug fly around, recruiting kwamis as it traverses the many areas of the logo, as a representation of Marinette/Ladybug since she's the protagonist and eventually comes the next Guardian/leader of the kwamis.

For the learning portion, it didn't have to specifically be something inside of After Effects we learn. Anything new and used for the video counted, so I looked up a tutorial on how to build a ladybug to use. The problem was, the tutorial wasn't the best quality and went way too fast, and there was only the one. I tried to follow along best I could, but then I realized; the ladybug would be small and cartoon-like. Some of the finer details would be near unnoticeable or non-existent due to the style. Thus, to make the best use of my time, I decided to opt for a more cartoony feel and leave out some of the more realistic details.

The actual video sequence felt pretty straight forward to assemble. Anything I needed ladybug wise I would take to Cinema 4D, render out what I need, and slap it in. The biggest challenge, however, was the rotoscoping. I learned that rotoscoping can be extremely finnicky and can include too much of the scene, even with the selection contrast tweaked.

I worked tirelessly on this project, as I wanted to give the professor a video to wow him. Something to go out with a bang, and I think I accomplished it!
